LOS ALTOS, Calif., Oct. 08, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Descope, a developer-friendly customer and agentic identity platform, today announced it has been named “Multifactor Solution of the Year” in the 10th annual CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards program. Conducted by CyberSecurity Breakthrough, an independent market intelligence organization, the annual program recognizes the most innovative companies, products, and technologies driving progress in the global information security industry.
Most organizations have deployed customer MFA somewhere, but few have deployed it everywhere. In Descope’s 2025 State of Customer Identity report, a survey of more than 400 IAM decision-makers, 94% of organizations said they offer some form of customer MFA but only 10% offer it across all of their applications. Organizations are also in a constant tug-of-war between security and user experience—high-friction MFA can improve security but lead to user dropoffs, while MFA that’s absent or too lenient lowers the barrier for cybercriminals attempting account compromise.
Descope customers can choose from a wide set of MFA methods for their external-facing applications, including phishing-resistant passkeys and magic links, authenticator apps, and one-time passwords. Adaptive MFA helps organizations create conditional journeys that decide when a login needs a second authentication factor. It uses native risk signals such as trusted devices, VPN detection, impossible travel, and bot scores, along with connectors to fraud providers including Forter, reCAPTCHA Enterprise, and Arkose Labs. Teams can also implement step-up authentication before sensitive actions like changing account details or making a payment. All of these controls are built in Descope’s visual workflow editor, enabling teams to implement and modify MFA without writing custom authentication code. Organizations can also add Descope MFA as an augmentation to their existing CIAM systems.
Notable customers using Descope for MFA include Branch Insurance, who reduced auth-related support tickets by 50% after deploying Descope passkeys, and Navan, who augmented their incumbent CIAM with phishing-resistant magic link MFA from Descope.
Descope’s MFA controls also extend to AI agents acting on a user’s behalf. Descope supports step-up authentication based on Client-Initiated Backchannel Authentication (CIBA), allowing an agent to request the user’s approval on a separate device before it completes a sensitive action.
“Almost every company we talk to has MFA in some apps and not in others, and they hesitate to add more because every extra prompt costs them sign-ups and sales,” said Slavik Markovich, Co-Founder and CEO of Descope. “Our customers decide exactly when a second factor appears and can change those rules as fraud patterns or user expectations shift. As AI agents start making purchases and changing accounts for users, Descope also supports controls that let a user approve sensitive AI agent actions before they happen. We’re honored to see CyberSecurity Breakthrough recognize this work and are grateful to our customers that trust Descope as their customer MFA provider.”
More than 1,000 organizations use Descope, including GoFundMe, GoodRx, Databricks, and Collectors. Descope was named a Leader in the 2025 Frost Radar for Non-Human Identity Solutions and a 2025 KuppingerCole Rising Star in CIAM and Passwordless Authentication. It has also been named a SINET16 Innovator in 2025, and included in Fortune Cyber 60 in 2024 and 2025, Rising in Cyber in 2026, and Redpoint’s InfraRed 100 list in 2025.
