Many organizations publish a short explainer and call it a lesson. Everything Policy’s model goes further: nearly every topic in its library is expanded into a complete, ready-to-teach package — not just a summary of the issue, but the tools a teacher needs to bring it into the classroom the same day.
What a topic actually includes
Using “Protest In America: Your Rights and Their Limits” as an example, a single Everything Policy topic can include:
- A full policy brief — written in plain, nonpartisan language, walking through the constitutional basis for the right to protest, key Supreme Court decisions, how governments regulate protests through time, place, and manner restrictions, and how these rules differ at the federal, state, and local level.
- Video: “What are our rights to protest?” — This short explainer video introduces students to the right to protest and its limits. It works well as a lesson opener or as a companion to the Protest in America brief.
- A ready-to-run lesson plan — includes class time estimates, materials needed, step-by-step procedures, and suggested extension activities such as independent research into related Supreme Court cases.
- A complete student handout — a warm-up activity to surface prior knowledge, a vocabulary-building exercise, a guided reading activity that has students verify or correct their initial answers using the brief, a rights-versus-limits organizing table, and a scaffolded essay assignment.
- Discussion Questions Guide — includes discussion questions aligned to the C3 Framework and AP U.S. Government and Politics, helping students analyze landmark cases and debate where protest rights end.
- Weekly Lesson Drop — Every week, Everything Policy releases a new ready-to-use, inquiry-based lesson built around one of its nonpartisan policy briefs. Teachers can find each week’s lesson in its own folder in the Everything Policy library on filecamp.
- Madison — Everything Policy’s AI tool translates complex federal and state legislation into plain, everyday language. This helps students and citizens understand what a bill actually says and does.
One topic, dozens of times over
The right to protest is one entry in an expanding library that includes Federalism, Housing Affordability, the Federal Budget Deficit, Voting Access, Single-Payer Healthcare, the Bill of Rights, National Service, and more — each developed with the same or similar materials.
Educators can access all the resources in our library here.
