Red Hill Manor, Delaware – October 20, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
A September 30, 2026, U.S. Houzz Bathroom Trends Study of 1,619 homeowners found that 71 percent of surveyed renovating homeowners address special needs in their bathroom projects, with grab bars ranking among the leading modifications for those planning to age in place. RTZEN, a family-owned wrought iron décor brand operating since 1997, is drawing attention to a detail that such renovations often overlook: the placement of the toilet paper holder.
The Houzz research noted that among homeowners addressing special needs, 55 percent expect those needs to arise five or more years in the future, and 63 percent of those renovating for aging in place choose grab bars. These figures reflect different survey subgroups and do not share the same denominator. While the study measured broad renovation priorities, it did not evaluate accessory positioning. RTZEN notes that a bathroom with a comfort-height toilet, grab bars, and an accessible shower can still feature a poorly positioned paper holder that requires uncomfortable reaching or interferes with other fixtures. This interpretation reflects RTZEN’s product-category perspective rather than a finding of the study.

To help homeowners weigh mounting location, seated reach, roll clearance, and fixture interference, RTZEN has published the RTZEN Toilet Paper Holders Guide. The company notes that a holder which appears correctly positioned may still prove difficult to reach from a seated position, which is why placement deserves attention alongside larger fixtures during the planning stage.
Formal placement guidance exists for those who seek it. Under the U.S. Access Board ADA Standards Section 604.7, the dispenser centerline must sit 7 to 9 inches in front of the toilet’s leading edge, the paper outlet must fall between 15 and 48 inches above the finished floor, and dispensers must not be mounted behind grab bars and must permit continuous paper flow. For general residential settings, the National Kitchen and Bath Association recommends a holder height of 26 inches from the finished floor, raised to 28 inches for comfort-height toilets and lowered to between 20 and 22 inches in bathrooms used primarily by young children. The forward distance from the toilet bowl generally falls between 8 and 12 inches.
“A bathroom can meet every accessibility standard for the toilet and shower and still leave the smallest daily detail in the wrong place,” said Rami Abramson, Design Standards Reviewer at RTZEN. “Homeowners should plan the paper dispenser and grab bar locations together, because treating them as unrelated accessories often leads to awkward reaching once the renovation is complete.”
These considerations informed a second resource from the company. The RTZEN Toilet Paper Holder Placement Guide details forward distance from the bowl, side selection based on door swing and vanity clearance, and height adjustments for different household needs. Abramson noted that the choice between fixed and freestanding installation, the ease of changing rolls, and unobstructed dispensing each affect everyday convenience in ways that are easy to overlook before a renovation is underway.
Abramson added that construction and finish carry long-term weight in humid environments. “A holder is handled every day for years, so the material, the anchoring, and the finish determine whether it stays stable and looks right over time. These guides exist so homeowners can think through those choices before marking a single hole.” The company addresses those installation factors, including wall anchors, bracket stability, mounting surfaces, and moisture-resistant finishes, in the RTZEN Wall-Mounted Toilet Paper Holder Guide.
RTZEN, operated by Iron-Craft and established in 1997, specializes in handcrafted wrought iron products for home and office use.
